○What is Petition for naturalization?
Naturalization is a process which a foreigner acquires Japanese citizenship.
The citizenship means that you must be a part of a country.
By acquiring Japanese citizenship, legal responsibility between you,
as a Japanese, and the country of Japan will be occurred.

○ Condition that naturalization can be applied for
1.You must keep Japanese address for five more years.
2.You must be over 20.
3.You must have good behavior.
4.You must be able to be financially independent by yourself or
your family.
5.You must relinquish your citizenship in your home country

7.You must be able to read and write Japanese.

○ Explanations
1.You must keep Japanese address for five more years.
You must be living in Japan for five years continuously.
If you leave Japan even once, it goes back to zero.

2.You must be over 20.
You may be exempted, check the column below.
3.You must have good behavior.
If you have a record of crime, tax evasion, traffic violation,
it will be difficult to acquire Japanese citizenship.
4.You must be able to be financially independent by yourself or your family.
If you are able to live financially independent in Japan, there is no problem
acquiring Japanese citizenship. Also a student who is being supported by
his parents qualifies this requirement.

5.You must relinquish your citizenship in your home country
It is forbidden to have dual nationality in Japan.
It means that if you acquire.
Japanese citizenship, you must give up the one of your home country.Many
countries have a law which deprives his nationality if a person decides to
naturalize to another country. However, since not all the country has
the same law,you may need to check how it is in your country.
6.You must not have dangerous thoughts
You are not allowed to plan or insist to destroy Japanese government.
You are not.allowed to join in a group which has that kind of thoughts.
If you have been a member of those group
you are not permitted to acquire Japanese citizenship.
7.You must be able to read and write Japanese.
You should be able to read and write Japanese at the level of Japanese
third grade students.

○Requirements for exemption
#1, #2, #4 of prerequisites of naturalization process may be
exempted if you are corresponding to any of the following
requirements.
A)A person who has a parent who owned Japanese citizenship,
has lived in Japan consecutively more than 3 years,
and has address in Japan, will be exempted.
B) A person who was born in Japan, and has address in Japan
for more than 3consecutive years, and has parents born
in Japan, will be exempted.
C)A person who has address in Japan more than 10 consecutive
years will be exempted.
D)A person who has a Japanese spouse, owns address in Japan
more than 3 years,and owns address on the day of application,
will be exempted.
E)A person who has a Japanese spouse for more than 3 years
since the day of marriage, and owns address in Japan
more than 1 year, will be exempted.
F)A person who is a child of Japanese, and has address
in Japan will be exempted.
G)A person who is adopted child of Japanese, owns address
in Japan more than 1 year,
and was not over 20 on the time of adoption, will be exempted.
H)A person who were Japanese before, owns address in Japan,
will be exempted.(Except a person who lost Japanese citizenship
after naturalization.)
I)A person who was born in Japan, owns no nationality
from the birth, and has address in Japan for 3 consecutive years,
will be exempted.

○Steps of petition for naturalization
First of all, you must check if you are qualified to any of the requirements
shown above. Then, you need to gather all the application forms.
Since you have many forms which are so tiring to gather,
it is recommended to get help from professionals.
Even though you need to get some of the application form by yourself,
it is still strongly recommended to hire professionals because they will
do almost everything for you.
Although the Professionals are great help, you must turn in the application
form by yourself because it is a law.
A few months later the applications are turned in,
you will have an interview with Legal Affairs Bureau.
The Minister of Justice will decide whether or not he gives a permission
of naturalization.
After a year, you will be noticed if you are permitted or declined.
